2SLGBTQIA+ THERAPY IN BURNABY, BC
Common Challenges Addressed in 2SLGBTQIA+ Affirming Counselling
-
For many queer and trans people, coming out is an ongoing journey. Whether you're questioning your sexual orientation or gender identity, or have already come out to family, friends, or your workplace, counselling provides a safe space to process these experiences. A therapist can help navigate fear, shame, or uncertainty and work toward self-acceptance while addressing the challenges of living in a world that isn't always accepting.
-
Therapy is a supportive, non-judgemental space to get to know yourself. Our therapists help clients explore their identities, develop a sense of self-trust, and find expressions of gender and sexuality that feel genuine and empowering. This can include integrating what you are learning about yourself with your spirituality, gender expression, cultural identities, and other parts of who you are. By fostering self-awareness and self-compassion, counselling can lead to a stronger, more confident sense of self.
-
Mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and PTSD are more common among 2SLGBTQ+ individuals, largely due to experiences of discrimination, bullying, and trauma. Whether it's the result of the stress of daily life or an ongoing struggle with social stigma, therapy can provide tools for managing these mental health challenges.
-
2SLGBTQIA+ individuals often face challenges in their relationships with family members who may not understand or accept their identity. These dynamics can create feelings of isolation, guilt, or even rejection. Therapy can help clients work through these difficult situations, whether that means learning to communicate effectively with loved ones or processing the grief of losing relationships.
-
Reducing social isolation and fostering connections with others who celebrate and respect you is a vital component of wellbeing. Our therapists support clients in building meaningful relationships, navigating challenges and conflict in healthy ways, and developing communication skills, leading to a more fulfilling and supportive community.
-
Counselling provides a safe and non-judgmental space to discuss dating, intimacy, and relationships. Clients can explore their desires and navigate the complexities of sex, break-ups, diverse relationship configurations, and more within their unique contexts and needs.
-
You may have faced pressures that shame or try to control your body, your gender expression, or your identity. These experiences—along with things like fatphobia, transphobia, racism, or other forms of discrimination—can deeply affect how you see yourself and relate to your body. You deserve a space where you can unpack those experiences safely, challenge the messages you’ve been given, and begin to build a more affirming, empowered relationship with your body—on your own terms.
-
We take an intersectional approach to understanding how you relate to your body and to food, and we know that experience may be different for you if you are trans or nonbinary, or feel like cisgender, heterosexual ideas of “good” bodies don’t apply to you. Your relationship to your body has likely been shaped by systems that had rigid definitions of the “right” ways to have a gender, and that can show up in your eating and feelings about your body. Together, we can find a way forward that looks and feels the way it needs to for you, to honour your experiences and where you’d like to be.
