Welcoming Chloe Sernasie to Being and Becoming Counselling and Wellness Services
We are pleased to welcome Chloe Sernasie, Master’s Practicum Counsellor, to the team at Being and Becoming Counselling and Wellness Services in Burnaby.
Chloe is pursuing a Master’s in Counselling Psychology at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and is completing her practicum at Being and Becoming under the supervision of a Licensed Psychologist. Through our Affordable Counselling Program, Chloe provides counselling at a reduced rate for youth and adults, both in person in Burnaby and online across British Columbia.
A Space to Feel Seen and Understood
Chloe's approach begins with meeting clients where they are. She believes that counselling is not about telling people who they should be or prescribing a single way forward, but about creating space to understand what matters to them and what may be getting in the way of living the life they want to live.
Chloe is particularly interested in supporting clients navigating identity, self-worth, relationships, and life transitions, as well as those experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, grief and loss, perfectionism, and emotional overwhelm. She works collaboratively with clients to better understand their experiences, identify their strengths, and develop greater clarity about what matters to them. At the same time, Chloe recognizes that counselling is not only about gaining insight; she helps clients develop practical skills and strategies for managing emotions, navigating relationships, coping with challenges, and making changes that support the life they want to live.
Chloe also considers the broader contexts in which people live. Relationships, culture, identity, and social systems can all influence how we understand ourselves and the challenges we face. She brings this awareness into her work while creating space for each client's individual experience.
An Integrative, Trauma-Informed Approach
Chloe takes an integrative, trauma-informed approach, drawing from person-centred therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT).
These approaches allow her to combine exploration and self-understanding with practical skill-building and strategies for managing emotions, changing patterns, navigating challenges, and working toward meaningful goals. She draws from these approaches based on each client's experiences, needs, and goals.
