Meet Julia Hiebert, Our Newest Registered Clinical Counsellor

We are excited to welcome Julia Hiebert to the Being and Becoming team. Julia is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a Master of Education in Counselling Psychology from the University of Toronto, and she brings a warm, body-centred, and emotion-focused approach to her work with youth and adults.

Who Julia Works With

Julia joins Being and Becoming after working with the Interior Health Eating Disorder Program, where she gained specialized experience supporting clients with a range of eating disorder presentations including Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, and Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). This clinical background gives her a deep understanding of the complexity of eating disorder recovery and the importance of compassionate, evidence-based care.

During her time at Interior Health, Julia also developed and facilitated eating disorder program groups — including a recovery readiness group, a psychoeducational emotions group, and an ARFID recovery group — and worked within a multidisciplinary team alongside dietitians, psychiatrists, nurses, and occupational therapists. Prior to specializing in eating disorders, Julia worked with Fraser Health supporting youth aged 13 to 24 with complex mental health concerns.

Julia works with individuals aged 16 and older, including teenagers, young adults, and adults navigating a range of mental health challenges. She has particular experience supporting people struggling with:

  • Eating disorders and disordered eating including Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, and ARFID

  • Body image concerns

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Relationship challenges

  • Harmful coping behaviours including self-harm

Julia sees clients in person at our Burnaby office and virtually across British Columbia, with daytime and evening appointments available on weekdays.

Julia's Approach

Julia's clinical background in publicly funded eating disorder and mental health programs has shaped an approach that is both evidence-based and deeply human. She understands that the people who come to her have often been struggling for a long time — and that what they need is not another set of rules or strategies, but a space where their experience is genuinely understood.

At the heart of Julia's work is a belief that difficult emotions and behaviours are rarely random. They are usually meaningful responses to painful experiences — ways we learned to cope, protect ourselves, or get our needs met. Her role is to help clients slow down, get curious about those responses, and gradually build a different relationship with themselves and their inner world.

Julia draws on Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) as her primary frameworks, alongside Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). This combination allows her to work with both the emotional depth of a person's experience and the practical skills needed to navigate difficult moments — particularly for clients managing eating disorders, self-harm, or other complex presentations.

Her approach is collaborative, non-judgmental, and attuned to the ways identity, culture, and lived experience shape how we feel and function. She works at a pace that feels manageable for each individual client, and she brings both warmth and clinical depth to every therapeutic relationship.
